1946. The French government takes the decision to create a state monopoly for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. Electricité de France (EDF) and Gaz de France (GDF) become a reality on 8 April 1946.

Companies that are planning new nuclear units are currently indicating that the total costs (including escalation and financing costs) will be in the range of $5,500/kW to $8,100/kW or between $6 billion and $9 billion for each 1,100 MW plant.

So with operating profits of 6 billion, they needed annual insurance cover of 100 billion.  A net loss of 96 billion a year, for a nuclear power plant.

We are 200 operating nuclear plants, France and the U.S.  The insurance cover of 40 trillion each!  There being no available insurance above one billion, U.S. and French nuclear are the most massively bankrupt corporations in economic history.

There is no prospect of and getting insurance cover!  They have used their residual money, to bribed the nuclear regulator to look the other way.  When I met the nuclear regulator 1983, who shortly their first duty was to ensure there was sufficient insurance cover.

This was three years before Chernobyl!  Since then all nuclear power plant so around the world have been operating with criminally insufficient insurance cover.

So annually EDF those of French government 10 trillion a year!  And more importantly there at variance with an operating consent.  No insufficient insurance, no nuclear power!

Even before we get on to a hyper toxic and fatal nature of the industry!
