University departments have an agreement or they will not research the areas in which other departments are experts.  So the carbon cycle should have been the province only of biology.

That nuclear power away some money at science educational people, and the quite happily started researching carbon dioxide - of which there knew nothing!  But they knew you had to spend money.

Nuclear power started researching manmade global warming, after the Chernobyl incident in 1986.  Conclusive proof that mankind should never a tent uranium nuclear fusion.  Just too unsafe!
