My thanks to professor Z for getting me thinking about this at Sheffield University 2000.  Iowa found the answer 2001, and he ended my PH D work.

A working steam engine and boiler gives off X rays and produces helium and oxygen gas.  Though very little gas!

Nuclear power has invented the idea that electricity is carbon free.  If the electricity is generated using hydro electric or wind power, nearly. If it generated using a fossil fuel burn and or nuclear power very much not!  Fossil fuel burning obviously releases carbon dioxide, as the flame fires up a steam plasma, but oxidising the carbon takes in most of the energy. During uranium nuclear power plant construction, the use a fossil fuel burn on limestone and to produce the cement require for their reinforced concrete. And nowhere you would wish to work in a nuclear plant where the cement was produced via uranium fission rods on limestone.  Which would produce radioactive concrete! Biology loves CO 2 Plant's eat carbon dioxide from the air down to the present limit of two parts per million.  They build the carbohydrates of life and excrete oxygen.  A process that takes heat!
